DAY 6 (29 Nov, 2019): SIEM REAP – ANGKOR TEMPLES HIGHLIGHTED (B, L) PRIVATE TOUR

  • Get up early today and be ready to leave your hotel at 4:45 am. Our guide along with the private car will transfer you to the ticket booth to get your visiting pass then we will continue to Angkor Wat for a beautiful sunrise over the temple. The sun rises around 6 am but there is a good reason to get there that early is to get the best possible viewing spot. We will then visit the temple itself before the crowd to have a much closer look at this Khmer masterpiece.
  • 8:30 am, return to your hotel for breakfast and refreshment. Enjoy your hotel facilities and swimming pool.
  • Lunch is served at a nice local restaurant in the city (Food only, a drink is on own account)
  •  Afternoon, Visit the picturesque Ta Prohm. This beautiful temple is overgrown with fig trees, giving a haunting yet exotic atmosphere. The magnificent roots of the trees have merged over the centuries with the temple’s huge stone blocks, emphasizing a ‘forgotten city’ feeling.
  •  Continue to Angkor Thom, the ancient city. Visit the Terrace of the Elephants, which served as a platform from where the King could welcome back his victorious army and the Terrace of the Leper King, which holds detailed carvings winding along a narrow passage way that leads to the Baphuon complex. Top off the day with a visit to the Ancient Royal City’s centre piece; the Bayon temple. As you approach, you will notice the enigmatic faces of former King Jayavarman VII looking into every direction. Late afternoon is a perfect time to visit this highlight as crowds usually flock elsewhere; leaving the Bayon standing majestically in the beautiful late afternoon quietly.
  •  Later we will climb up to the top of Bakheng Hill through a nicely paved mountain road. Once arrived on the top, we will continue to the atop temple for a great view of the West Baray while looking forward to the sun goes down as it gradually sets.

*** In rainy day, the sun may not appear which means we will skip sunrise and sunset. We will replace it by a city tour such as visit Wat Thmey Pagoda and Artisans D’ Angkor (if time permits).

Inclusions: hotel breakfast, private A/C transfer, local English speaking tour guide, entrance fees, lunch, hotel in Siam Reap city, water

DAY 7 (30 Nov, 2019): SIEM REAP – BANTEAY SREI & GRAND CIRCUIT (B, L) PRIVATE TOUR

  • 7am, drive to the rural outskirt 35km from Angkor area to visit the smallest, but magnificent, Banteay Srei built in the 10th Century and dedicated to Shiva. The temple was the birthplace of Khmer classical style architecture and the bas-relief work is the best example of Khmer classical art remaining. The pink sandstone structure bears a series of striking and beautiful sculptures, lintels, pediments and friezes. Khmers say the temple must have been carved by women for the details are too fine for the hands of a man. On the way back to Siem Reap we will visit the Banteay Samre Temple adorned with impressive reliefs depicting scenes of Vishnu as well as Krishna legends.
  •  Lunch will be served at a local restaurant in front of the Royal Bath of Srah Srang (Food only, drink is on own account).
  •  Afternoon, we will follow the grand circuit visiting the mountain temple of Pe Rup which traditionally believed to be a funerary temple, but in fact the state temple of Rajendravarman II. We will then move to Ta Som which a small and classic Bayon-style monastic complex consisting of a relatively flat enclosure, face tower gopuras and cruciform interior sanctuaries much like a miniature version of Ta Prohm. Next in our visiting list is Neak Pean – a small island temple located in the middle of the last baray (the Preah Khan Baray or Jayatataka) to be constructed by a Khmer king in the Angkor area. The central temple sits at the axis of a cross or lotus pattern of eight pools. The temple is faced by a statue of the horse, Balaha, saving drowning sailors. Though originally dedicated to Buddha, Neak Pean contains several Hindu images. Neak Pean may have served an absolution function, and the waters were thought to have healing properties. During the dry season when the water is low, check out the animal and human headwater spouts at the outside center of each pool. Neak Pean is most photogenic in the wet season when the pools are full. We will end up the day with Preah Khan – a huge, highly exportable monastic complex. Full of carvings, passages and photo opportunities. It originally served as a Buddhist monastery and school, engaging over 1000 monks. For a short period it was also the residence of King Jayavarman VII during the reconstruction of his permanent home in Angkor Thom. Preah Khan means 'sacred sword.’ In harmony with the architecturally similar Ta Prohm, which was dedicated to Jayavarman VII's mother, Preah Khan is dedicated to his father. Features of note: like most of Jayavarman VII's monuments, the Buddha images were vandalized in the later Hindu resurgence. Some Buddha carvings in the central corridor have been crudely carved over with Bodhisattvas, and in a couple of odd cases, a lotus flower and a linga. Also note the cylindrical columns on the building west of the main temple. It is one of the only examples of round columns and may be from a later period.

Inclusions: hotel breakfast, private A/C transfer, local English speaking tour guide, entrance fees, lunch, hotel in Siam Reap city, water
