Van Mieu Quoc Tu Giam is the Vietnamese name of Hanoi Temple of Literature which one of the most popular destinations for the domestic and foreigner tourists in Hanoi Tours. In the map of Hanoi, this relic is covered by Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam and Ton Duc Thang streets. It's about 15 - 20 minutes by car from the Old Quarter to Van Mieu (about 3 - 4 km).

In original, Van Mieu consists of a small lake in front of the main gate and the 5 courtyards inside the main area. Each courtyard has a special mission:

Next, to the horsemen stele are the four tall pillars. Above the pillars, there are some symbols of the mascot that was considered as the standing guard for the temple gate. According to legend, they could distinguish the good or bad people from going to the main gate of the Temple.
Inside the main gate is the first area of Van Mieu: The garden in Nhap Dao. Today this area consists of two small ponds and symmetrical paths through an axis that likes the old road for mandarins in the past.

Walking to the second courtyard, the biggest highlight is the Khue Van Cac (Star of Literature Pavilion) which is unique in Hanoi and Vietnam. The three-roofed archway symbolizing: Past - Present - Future has become the symbol of Hanoi city.

Next to the Khue Van area is the most famous area that is preserved for hundreds of years: the doctors of steles. The stone steles on the turtles are also made of stone notions for longevity according to the concept of the Eastern.
