Northwest is the mountainous region west of North Vietnam, which share borders with Laos and China. This region is sometimes called the Northwest Tonkin and is one of three natural geographic sub-region of northern Vietnam (the other two sub-regions are North-east and the Red River Delta). Northwest’s geography not officially been published. Some suggestion that is the south (right bank) of the Red River. Some others that is the area in the south of Hoang Lien Son mountain range. According to Geologists Le Ba Thao said that the Northwest is limited to the east by the Hoang Lien Son mountain range – Fansipan Mountain and to the west is Mountains of Ma River.
Topography: Northwest’s topography is in difficult to access, has many high mountains runs from the North-west to South-east. Hoang Lien Son range to 180 km length, 30 km width, with some peaks from 2800 to 3000 m above sea-level and Ma River Mountains 500 km length, with heights over 1800 m, between the two mountain ranges is low hills of Da river valley.
The provinces in the north-west: Hoa Binh Provinces, Son La Province, Dien Bien province, Lai Chau province, Lao Cai province – Sapa, Sapa tours & Yen Bai province.
