Mekong River Delta is one part of southern region Vietnam, It is called as Mien Tay Nam Bo (South-West region) or Call Mien Tay (West Region). The largest city is Can Tho city and there are 12 provinces such as Long An province, Tien Giang Province (My Tho province old), Ben Tre, Vinh Long, Tra Vinh, Hau Giang (Tho old), Soc Trang, Dong Thap (Former names - Kien Phong province and Sa Dec and old), An Giang, Kien Giang province (Rach Gia – Former name), Bac Lieu and Ca Mau provinces.
The total area of the province in the Mekong Delta is 40548.2 square kilometers (2011) and a total population of the provinces in the region is 17,330,900 people (2011).
Culture: The region is typically water & river culture, because of local life in the Mekong Delta region developed and lived on the rivers. Many villages can only be reached by waterways instead of road. This region is the cradle of traditional music art – folk song: Cai Luong (Opera).
Tourism: Ecotourism began to prosper as river cruises, orchards, explore the islets. Sustainable tourism initially set up with the success of sustainable Resort Mekong Lodge in Tien Giang and other provinces such as Ben Tre, Vinh Long. However, the quality and competitiveness of the tourism services is uneven and limited.
Climate: This area has the equatorial climate so it is very favorable for agricultural development (rainy and hot) especially developing countries grow water rice.
The most attractive visiting places in Mekong River Delta: Explore Chau Doc, the riverine gateway to Vietnam and Cambodia. The bustling centre of Can Tho is well worth a stop, while sleepy My Tho attracts mostly day-trippers from Saigon – Ho Chi Minh City. Don't miss the breath-taking Phu Quoc Island.
